Family matters are among the most personal and consequential legal issues our clients face. Whether you are planning for the future, navigating the end of a relationship, or administering the estate of a loved one, our firm provides the expertise, discretion, and sensitivity these matters demand.
Our practice encompasses the full spectrum of family law, with particular strength in estates, trusts, wills, and probate.
Estates and Trust Law
The Firm assists individuals and families structure their affairs to protect wealth, provide for dependants, and ensure their wishes are honoured. Our work includes establishing trusts, and creating family arrangements that minimise disputes and tax exposure.
We provide comprehensive advice on trustee duties, beneficiary rights, and the administration of trust assets. We also assist with the recognition and enforcement of prenuptial agreements, which Ugandan courts have shown willingness to uphold where parties freely entered into them without fraud or coercion.
Wills and Probate
Our wills and probate practice supports clients through every stage of testamentary planning and estate administration. We draft wills that are legally sound and clearly express our clients’ intentions, ensuring compliance with the strict requirements of law, including ensuring all witnesses sign and write their names and addresses on each page in the presence of the testator. When a loved one passes, we guide executors and beneficiaries through the probate process, from applying for grants to filing the required inventories and accounts.
We represent administrators, executors, and beneficiaries in all aspects of estate administration. This includes obtaining letters of administration, whether for testate or intestate estates, and advising on the distribution of assets in accordance with the law and the deceased’s wishes while ensuring that our clients understand their entitlements under the current legal framework.
Where estates face complications, we provide practical solutions. We have experience in matters involving the Administrator General’s office, including applications for certificates of no objection and the revocation of grants where circumstances warrant. We also handle disputes between co-administrators and beneficiaries, representing clients in applications for removal of administrators and the filing of accounts out of time.
Why Families Choose Us: We understand that family law matters require more than legal expertise. They require empathy, patience, and a commitment to preserving relationships where possible. Our team approaches every matter with discretion and works to resolve disputes efficiently.
